Recuperative care

Recuperative Care is short-term housing for people who need a safe place to recover from an illness or injury but do not require hospital-level care and do not have stable housing.

What Recuperative Care Provides

  • A bed and temporary housing
  • Meals
  • Monitoring of medical and/or behavioral health needs
  • Transportation to medical appointments, as appropriate
  • Case management, care coordination, and housing linkage

Who May Be Eligible

A Medi-Cal member must generally meet both:

1. Medical Need

  • Needs recovery from illness or injury
  • Condition may risk ER use/hospitalization without support
  • Safe recovery is not possible in their current living situation

2. Homeless or At Risk

  • Currently experiencing homelessness or
  • At risk of losing housing

CalAIM services are available to Medi-Cal members who meet eligibility criteria and receive authorization through their Managed Care Plan. Availability varies by county and health plan. To verify eligibility, contact us at 916-659-0003.
