MISI Strengthens Ties with EGUSD and FACE to Support Refugee and Newcomer Families

In Nov 2025, My ISI (MISI) had the pleasure of meeting with representatives from the Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) and the Family and Community Engagement (FACE) team to discuss ways to work together more closely in supporting local families, especially newcomers and refugees adjusting to life in the Sacramento area.

The meeting provided an open and productive space for all parties to share their programs and explore how collaboration could enhance community impact. MISI introduced its key services Housing Navigation, Enhanced Care Management (ECM), and Doula Support highlighting the organization’s focus on helping families achieve stability, health, and empowerment through culturally responsive care.

EGUSD and FACE, in turn, shared details about their Newcomer and Refugee Services, which include wellness support, communication assistance, immunization services, and educational transcript interpretation. These programs are designed to help new families integrate smoothly into the school system and community life.

“We value MISI’s dedication to supporting families and refugees,” said Mr. Samiah Yaqubi from EGUSD. “By aligning our services, we can make a greater impact and ensure that every child and family has access to the tools they need to thrive.”

Mr. Hafiz Mohammadi, Mr. Rustam Sobhi and Ms. Yassaman Vedad from MISI also emphasized the importance of partnership, noting that community challenges can only be addressed effectively through collaboration and shared purpose.

The meeting ended on an optimistic note, with all organizations expressing enthusiasm to continue working together to build a stronger support network for refugee and immigrant families one rooted in education, wellness, and opportunity.
